The Michelin Guide is not only about tasting menus, impossible reservations and dinners requiring the financial planning of a small renovation.

Its Bib Gourmand distinction recognises restaurants serving good-quality food at good value. That does not always mean cheap, particularly in Dubai. It means the cooking delivers enough to make the bill feel fair—and the return visit easy to justify.

There are currently 19 Bib Gourmands in Dubai. These eight are already live on yapped and cover everything from ramen and Korean barbecue to Malaysian grills, modern comfort food and Emirati cooking.

Here is where we would start.

DUO Gastrobar

The one we would recommend to almost anyone.

DUO serves polished modern comfort food without making dinner feel like an appointment. The cooking is refined, the atmosphere remains relaxed and the prices are considerably friendlier than the plating might suggest.

Its Creek Harbour restaurant joined the Bib Gourmand list in 2025, following the success of the original Dubai Hills branch. Go for lunch with every intention of being productive afterwards. See how that works out.

REIF Japanese Kushiyaki

Modern Japanese food without the ceremony.

Chef Reif Othman’s Dar Wasl restaurant covers far more than grilled skewers. Expect gyoza, sandos, ramen, sushi and dishes built for the middle of the table.

The energy is casual, but the cooking is precise. Bring people who understand that “we’ll share everything” is a commitment, not an opening suggestion.

“The best Bib Gourmands are the places you leave planning to revisit—not recovering from the bill.”

Hawkerboi

Big Southeast Asian flavour. Small-plate strategy required.

Hawkerboi draws on the street food of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar, serving deeply flavoured dishes in a lively JLT dining room.

This is not the table for one cautious order per person. Bring a group, cover as much of the menu as possible and accept that the last bite may become a diplomatic issue.

Harummanis

Malay cooking worth planning ahead for.

Harummanis is a compact Malay grill restaurant with bold spice, smoky cooking and flavours influenced by Malaysia’s neighbours.

The room is understated. The food is not. Tables are limited, so this is one to book rather than drop into with six people on Friday night and an optimistic expression.

REIF

Hoe Lee Kow

Korean barbecue with the volume turned up.

A correction worth making: Hoe Lee Kow is Korean, not Malaysian. Another Reif Othman restaurant, it serves contemporary Korean cooking with barbecue at the centre of the action.

Expect Wagyu, punchy sauces and dishes designed to travel around the table. The colourful Dubai Hills setting keeps things casual, while the business lunch makes a particularly useful introduction.

Kinoya

The ramen remains compulsory.

Kinoya began as Neha Mishra’s supper club before becoming one of Dubai’s defining Japanese restaurants. That sense of warmth survived the move into a permanent dining room.

Ramen leads the menu, but stopping there would be tactical negligence. Add izakaya dishes, robata and whatever your server believes should arrive before the bowls.

Teible

Seasonal cooking with an actual point of view.

Inside Jameel Arts Centre, Teible builds its menus around seasonal ingredients, responsible sourcing and produce grown closer to home. It also holds a Michelin Green Star for its sustainability work.

The food is thoughtful without requiring a lecture before every bite. Ask what is best that day, then take a walk around the galleries and congratulate yourself on organising a cultural afternoon.

Al Khayma Heritage Restaurant

Emirati cooking in old Dubai.

Set inside Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, Al Khayma combines traditional Emirati dishes with a setting that feels connected to the city around it.

Fresh bread, rice dishes and grilled meats make this a strong introduction to local cooking—particularly for visiting friends whose Dubai itinerary currently consists entirely of towers and beach clubs.

Pair lunch with a wander through Al Fahidi. Comfortable shoes would be an unusually sensible addition.

The Bib Gourmand works because it rewards restaurants you can imagine returning to. Less dining theatre, more dishes you spend the journey home discussing.

Eight restaurants. Several excellent reasons to stop automatically booking the same table.
