Some dinners come with a view. At Taiga, it is the grill.
The new Japanese restaurant opened on 1 October, with a 19-seat omakase teppanyaki counter at its centre. It comes from TakaHisa Group, with chefs Takashi Namekata and Hisao Ueda behind the food.
Let the Chefs Handle It
Omakase means leaving the selection to the kitchen. Here, that involves Japanese Wagyu, including Kobe, Matsusaka and Ozaki, alongside seasonal seafood sourced from Tokyo’s Toyosu Market.
The chefs cook in front of you, with the focus on getting each ingredient right rather than putting on a performance. A good choice if you are the person who always wants to know what is happening in the kitchen. You can stop craning your neck now.
“Come for dinner. Book a front-row seat to the cooking.”
Counter or Table?
This is the important booking detail: 19 seats at the counter does not mean 19 seats in the restaurant.
Taiga also offers table dining for yakiniku, shabu-shabu and sukiyaki, plus a private room. So if you want to watch the teppanyaki cooking, ask specifically for the counter. A general reservation is not the same thing.
What Will It Cost?
A current priced menu could not be verified. That is worth sorting before you commit, particularly when the words “Kobe beef” are involved.
Ask for the menu price, drinks costs and deposit terms, and flag any dietary requirements. The counter is chef-led, so this is not the moment to mention your seafood allergy halfway through dinner.
