Dinner plans are looking up. Literally.
LION, officially Lion in the Sun, reopens on Friday 25 September after its seasonal break.
Sitting on the 62nd floor of Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai, it brings Mediterranean sharing plates, open-fire cooking and skyline views worth competing for a window table.
What’s Coming Back?
Fire remains the main event.
The sharing menu moves from flame-grilled lobster and premium cuts to vegetables treated like more than an afterthought.
Go with people who share properly. Order across the menu, put everything in the middle and settle ownership of the final bite before dinner becomes tense.
Inside, natural wood, woven lanterns and tropical greenery soften the high-floor setting. Outside, the terrace brings 360-degree skyline views, with the Burj Khalifa in the distance.
This is built for long evenings, not a quick plate before the next plan.
“The setting is dramatic. The real test is whether the cooking can compete with the view.”
Who Should Book It?
This is for serious dates, birthday dinners and visitors expecting Dubai to deliver dinner, drinks and a skyscraper view in one booking.
It is not a casual, inexpensive supper. LION is a destination restaurant, and the 62nd-floor setting is not pretending otherwise.
The terrace returns just as evenings outside start sounding appealing again. Whether September agrees is another matter.
