The Al Quoz Guide: Art, Activities and More

Cinema, ceramics, padel, paint and plenty for the kids. Here’s how to spend a day in Al Quoz.

yapped Editors · Sep 1, 2026 · 7 min read

Al Quoz has always been one of Dubai's more interesting neighbourhoods.

Warehouses become galleries. Industrial units hide pottery studios. One minute you're watching an old film in a tiny independent cinema, the next you're throwing paint at a wall or attempting to make something vaguely bowl-shaped out of clay.

And that's exactly why we like it.

This isn't really a neighbourhood for wandering around hoping something catches your eye. Al Quoz rewards a little planning.

Pick an activity, book ahead and build a few hours around it.

Here are eight places worth getting off the sofa for.

Start Cultured

Cinema Akil

Alserkal Avenue · $

The cinema for people who actually like films.

No giant multiplex. No thirty-minute parade of trailers for superhero sequels.

Cinema Akil is Dubai's independent cinema, tucked inside Warehouse 68 at Alserkal Avenue and showing everything from international releases and documentaries to cult classics and films you probably won't find screening anywhere else in the city.

The programme changes constantly, so don't just turn up. Check what's showing first and choose your day around the film.

Seats are unassigned too, so getting there early is not a bad idea.

Perfect for: Solo cinema dates, actual dates and anyone bored of the multiplex.

Make Something

OKA Ceramics

Al Quoz Industrial Area 3 · $$

Your mug might be wonky. That's sort of the point.

OKA is where we'd go when coffee isn't enough of an activity.

The ceramic studio runs hand-building and pottery-wheel classes for beginners alongside private, semi-private and children's sessions. You don't need to know what you're doing; someone will show you.

Go with a friend, make something questionably symmetrical and accept that you'll become emotionally attached to it anyway.

Worth knowing: OKA is closed on Mondays, so save this one for Tuesday to Sunday.

Perfect for: Creative dates, catch-ups that need an activity and finally finding out whether you'd be any good at pottery.

Wild Paint House

Al Quoz 1 · $$

For anyone who wants to make art without being particularly good at art.

This is the opposite end of the spectrum.

Instead of carefully shaping clay, Wild Paint House actively encourages you to make a mess. There’s splatter painting, UV painting, spin painting, pendulum art, fluid pouring and even legal graffiti.

Choose the experience that sounds most fun, put on the protective gear and stop worrying about whether the finished result deserves wall space.

It probably doesn't matter.

Perfect for: Dates that need an icebreaker, groups and people who find normal painting classes suspiciously calm.

Get Moving

The Lob Dubai

Al Quoz Industrial Area 3 · $$

Padel. Pilates. Recovery. Repeat.

The Lob is what happens when someone takes your padel booking and builds an entire wellness day around it.

You can play a 90-minute match, book yoga or Pilates and add an infrared recovery session afterwards. There's enough happening here that a quick workout can very easily become your morning.

Padel starts from AED 80 for 90 minutes off-peak, yoga is AED 120 per class, Pilates AED 145 and infrared sessions AED 125.

Perfect for: Active mornings, padel groups and people who consider recovery part of the workout.

Cinema Akil

BOUNCE Dubai

Al Quoz · $$

More exhausting than it looks.

You may arrive thinking trampolines are for children.

Give it twenty minutes.

BOUNCE is basically permission to behave like you're twelve again, with interconnected trampolines and active zones that turn an hour into a surprisingly effective workout.

Go with friends and competitiveness will inevitably appear.

Perfect for: Groups, teenagers, active dates and anyone with energy to burn.

Going With Children?

Al Quoz becomes particularly useful when it's 42 degrees outside and the kids still expect entertainment.

You have options.

OliOli

Al Quoz 1 · $$

The children's museum adults don't secretly hate.

OliOli is built around hands-on galleries rather than looking at things behind glass.

Kids can experiment with water, build, climb, investigate and generally get stuck into things, which makes it one of those rare educational outings where nobody needs to mention that it's educational.

Standard two-hour tickets currently start from around AED 139 for children aged 2–16, with one adult included. Toddler tickets start from AED 69.

Bring socks. And if the Water Gallery is on the agenda, bring spare clothes.

Trust us.

Perfect for: Curious kids, hot afternoons and parents who need two genuinely occupied hours.

woo-hoo!

Al Quoz · $$

Two hours of very productive chaos.

woo-hoo! mixes play with experimentation, with hands-on galleries designed around movement, building, creativity and figuring things out for yourself.

A standard Discovery Ticket is currently AED 129 online for two hours, including entry for one child and one adult.

If your child would rather make the mess themselves, there are also add-on creative experiences including splatter painting and fluid art.

Worth knowing: Thursday is the clever day to go. Happy Thursdays currently offers two hours for one child plus one adult for AED 70.

Perfect for: Younger explorers, creative kids and Thursday plans that don't cost a fortune.

Gogo Village

Al Quoz Industrial Area 3 · $

For smaller humans with a lot of energy.

Gogo Village is the straightforward play option of the bunch.

There are soft-play areas, climbing zones, trampolines, role play and workshops, with plenty to keep younger children occupied without turning the outing into a full-scale theme-park expedition.

Entry starts at AED 75 for one hour, AED 95 for 90 minutes or AED 110 for two hours.

There's a café too, which may be considerably more important to you than it is to them.

Perfect for: Toddlers, younger kids and easy weekday playdates.

Build Your Own Al Quoz Day

You don't need to attempt all eight. In fact, please don't.

The Grown-Up One

Start at OKA Ceramics and spend the morning discovering whether pottery is your hidden talent.

It probably isn't.

Grab lunch nearby, wander through Alserkal Avenue and finish with whatever's showing at Cinema Akil.
