ERNST Is Throwing a Seven-Week Bavarian Blowout

The sausages are on, the steins are full and ERNST has decided that one Oktoberfest weekend is nowhere near enough.

ERNST Biergarten is starting Bavarian Bierfest today, bringing seven weeks of sausages, roast meats, live music and glasses that require a reasonably committed grip to 25hours Hotel One Central.

The festival runs every Thursday to Sunday from 17 September to 31 October. That gives you considerably longer to organise the group chat than the average Dubai food event. Whether anybody replies before Halloween is another matter.

What Should You Order?

Festival dishes start from AED55, with cheese spaetzle, roasted meats, Swabian dumplings and apple-pie ice cream among the specials.

Want the short version? The Stein & Sausage package costs AED150. You get a sausage and a stein without having to turn dinner into a planning exercise.

Groups can go considerably bigger with the AED750 Bavarian Bierfest Combo for four. It includes a sharing pan with either a pork or halal option, a pretzel tree and a three-litre Paulaner beer tower.

That works out neatly when everyone shares. It becomes less neat when one person announces they are “not that hungry” and then eats half the pretzels.

There is also a three-litre Paulaner beer shoe for AED330, should your table feel that ordinary glassware is lacking ambition.

“Not that hungry, apparently. Then half the pretzels disappear.”

Brunch, Bierfest or Sunday Roast?

Thursday and Friday start at 5pm and continue until late. Saturday begins much earlier at 1pm, which is useful because ERNST’s Bavarian Brunch runs from 1pm to 5pm, with packages starting from AED300.

Sunday is calmer, relatively speaking. The Bavarian roast is served from 1pm to 4pm for AED120.

Live German bands will rotate throughout the festival, with five acts scheduled across the seven-week run. There is also a raffle, because apparently the large food, larger drinks and brass bands were not enough activity for one room.

Who Should Book It?

This is for birthdays, work crews, visiting friends and groups willing to share enormous plates while live music makes subtle conversation increasingly optimistic.

It is not the place for a quiet catch-up conducted at library volume. Nor is it ideal for anybody who intends to “just pop in for one” and has somewhere important to be afterwards.

Seven weeks sounds generous, but the Saturday brunches are likely to attract the organised tables. Book ahead if you want a particular weekend or enough space for several people to raise three litres of Paulaner at once.

yapped tip: Choose your commitment level before booking. Thursday works for a quick sausage-and-stein appearance. Saturday is for brunch, bands and absolutely no serious plans afterwards.
